Restaurant: Saturn Grill

Saturn Grill has been around probably longer than I’ve been a vegetarian (11 years), and I’m incredibly thankful for it. Their menu and physical locations have evolved over time, but I think they’re currently the best they’ve ever been.

Located in Nichols Hills Plaza, Saturn Grill boasts a large menu with fresh options for vegetarians, vegans and omnivores alike. They make all their bread fresh daily, and it shows. I can’t say I’ve ever had a bad meal here; we frequently get Saturn via Postmates, and the quality remains top-notch.

Below, some of my favorite vegetarian dishes from Saturn Grill!

Grilled Veggie Sandwich with avocado added

Falafel Sandwich. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again—Saturn Grill without a doubt has the best falafel in OKC. It’s loaded with spices, and when you bite into it you can still see some of the solid chickpeas. I much prefer this to the overly processed falafel patties at a lot of places. The sandwich comes with homemade yogurt-tahini and spicy red pepper sauces, which are both excellent. I also like to add goat cheese to my falafel sandwich for extra creaminess. They do a falafel salad too if you’re in the mood for that!

Roasted Veggie Sandwich. Vegetarians can’t go wrong with this one! The Roasted Veggie Sandwich comes loaded with oven roasted zucchini, red bell peppers, red onion and portobello mushrooms with tomato, spinach, pesto and mayo on flatbread. I'm not a fan of tomato or zucchini, so I usually ask to leave those off and add avocado and goat cheese instead. This is great paired with their Tomato Basil Soup when available!

Portobello Mushroom Sandwich. When I posted the photo of the falafel sandwich on my Instagram yesterday, I got several comments espousing the divine qualities of Saturn's Portobello Mushroom Sandwich. I totally agree that this is a fabulous sandwich! Sometimes thick slabs of portobello mushrooms are just a bit too much for me, so I don't tend to order this sandwich (although I have had it several times and it is very good). The meaty mushrooms combined with melted Swiss and pesto are sure to delight both veggies and non-veggies alike.

Brogan Vegan Pizza

Brogan Vegan Pizza

Brogan Vegan Pizza. Back to my beloved falafel! This one sounds a bit strange, but it's actually crazy good. Homemade crust is topped with tomato sauce, roasted red bell peppers, red onion, portobello mushrooms, fresh spinach, falafel and spicy red pepper sauce. You don't even miss the cheese on this thing (although it would be really good with goat cheese, feta or ricotta)! It's incredibly filling, so expect to have leftovers.

Five Cheese + 1 Pizza. Sure, you can get a cheese pizza practically anywhere, but there's something about the one at Saturn that I especially love. I think it's their tomato sauce that makes it so tasty; and even though there are six cheeses involved, it's still not too greasy. This is sure to please even the most seasoned connoisseur of cheese pizzas.

Crispy Cheese Polenta

Crispy Cheese Polenta

Crispy Cheese Polenta. Served with pesto, sautéed mushrooms + onions and goat cheese (I did no tomatoes), this Crispy Polenta is pure perfection. The polenta triangles are seriously crispy and cooked perfectly. Dip them in the pesto, or top with with a bit of the goat cheese and veggies. My mom used to get the Portobello Mushroom Sandwich without fail, but since introducing her to the Polenta it’s now her new favorite.

Asian Broccoli Salad. I don't order this salad enough because of my obsession with the Falafel Sandwich, but I do highly recommend it! Mixed greens are topped with broccoli, green beans, carrots, Napa cabbage, Asian wheat noodles, sesame seeds and sunflower seeds and are tossed in a brown sugar soy dressing. This is great in the summertime or when you just want a lighter option.

Vegetarian Mushroom Lasagna

Vegetarian Mushroom Lasagna

Vegetarian Mushroom Lasagna. It may look messy (I attribute it to the fact that I ordered it to-go), but I was seriously blown away by this lasagna. The mushrooms are chopped up super fine so that they kind of act as the “meat,” which is perfectly complemented by the pesto ricotta + blend of five cheeses. Topped with a spicy tomato-garlic sauce and melted Parmesan cheese, this lasagna is truly incredible. It’s also not overly filling, so you don’t feel too guilty after eating it.
